With the outbreak of Covid-19, most sports are shut down. The top football leagues are no more, NBA is halted, tennis courts are vacant, and there are only a few sports competitions even being played in the world right now.
As Oklade.net reports, there are only two viable betting options that remain for any sport bettor who wants to get his daily fix of sport betting excitement.
UFC
Dana White, the president of UFC, decided to defy the coronavirus by letting UFC 249 go ahead. He is currently in the process of finding a suitable venue as the usual ones turn him down, but he will undoubtedly find a venue willing to take the cash.
The main fight in UFC 249, scheduled for April 18, is Khabib Nurgomedov vs Tony Ferguson. There are 10 more fights on the fight card, so that’s plenty of opportunity to find favourites to bet on. A week later, you can bet on Anthony Smith vs Glover Teixeira and 9 more fights, and a week after that there’s a fight between Hermansson and Weidman.
eSports
Though they definitely aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, eSports are the only betting option available right now that checks out in two most important areas: 1. matches are played every day, 2. there are big favourites to bet on.
In all four most popular eSports two teams fight each other on a map, in a 5v5 or 6v6 battle. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is the only realistic game of the bunch, as soldiers use real-world weapons to fight each other. For many people who have never played, watched or bet on eSports before, CS:GO will be most familiar.
Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA2) and League of Legends (LOL) are basically two versions of the same game, as they were both inspired by the DOTA expansion for World of Warcraft. Here you fight with elves, wizards and other fantasy creatures. This makes for very interesting matches, and LOL is the more popular of the two.
Finally, Overwatch is a game that will be most familiar to modern gamers who have played Fortnite.
Other options
At the time of writing, Belarus Premier League is the only notable active association football league, and only 1 round has been played so far. Nicaragua and Burundi are the only two other leagues played in the world right now.
Other than the two main options we suggested and these football leagues, there’s not much going on. You can bet on Russian table tennis and that’s it. That’s why we suggest taking up eSports. Even if you don’t know much about them, there are huge favourites with odds such as 1.14 or 1.16, so you can place a bet even not knowing the teams, hope for the best and learn as you go. Upsets are rare enough in eSports to make betting a viable option.
